Beyond the Backyard – a on-going Garden Training Series.

In order to meet the demand for gardens in Waco, UGC hosts an on-going garden-related workshop series designed for those interested in expanding beyond the backyard garden and building community through growing, harvesting and sharing garden goodness. This training will involve various UGC partners to facilitate discussion and instruction on growing, budgeting, outreach, and beyond.

Goal: To train garden leaders involved in organizations, churches, schools to start gardens in the community.

Time period: Series of 2-hour workshops– spread out over the year – one Saturday each month. This training series has no definite beginning or ending – but instead is a fluid opportunity for folks to enhance hands-on learning opportunities in the garden with variety of workshops throughout the year.

Workshop Structure:  Typically 2 hours.  Each workshop includes an in-class component and hands-on activity, followed by an opportunity to troubleshoot and dig deeper with fellow gardeners.  This is your chance to ask questions and work in the garden to try out your new garden skills!

Workshop Topics:  In the past we’ve covered many of the following topics:  seasonal garden planning and planting,starting seeds, harvesting rainwater, developing kid-based garden curriculum, and so much more!  Please use the comment section at the bottom of this page to suggest more workshop topics!
